AI supports the diagnosis of congenital heart defects in children
The Serce Dziecka Foundation is launching the InteliCardio training and research project. This initiative combines the fields of medicine and artificial intelligence (AI), offering the potential for a breakthrough in diagnosing congenital heart defects (CHD) in children.
Every day in Poland, 10 children are born with congenital heart defects, and one in five of them has a critical defect. Unfortunately, the low detection rate of these defects (only 30-50%) often leads to tragic consequences. With InteliCardio, there is a chance to change this! Artificial intelligence will aid in faster and more accurate detection of defects, enabling early intervention and saving many children’s lives.
The project was developed in collaboration with leading scientists in the field of congenital heart defect treatment (CHD). Its goal is to enhance the competencies and knowledge of doctors regarding the potential future use of AI to improve the diagnosis of congenital heart defects (CHD). The ability to utilize innovative IT tools will be crucial in the future for raising medical care standards and advancing the professional development of medical staff. Therefore, actions in this area must begin today.
Participants in the project—neonatologists and obstetricians—will learn how AI technologies can contribute to the earlier detection of defects, the potential of developed solutions to increase diagnostic accuracy, and the rapid processing of medical data.
We have invited leading Polish institutions specializing in congenital heart defects in fetuses to participate in the project:
PRO-FAMILIA Specialist Hospital in Rzeszów
Mother and Child Institute in Warsaw
Polish Mother’s Memorial Health Institute in Łódź
Świętokrzyskie Center for Mother and Newborn in Kielce
The project will begin on August 30, 2024, with training at the PRO-FAMILIA Specialist Hospital.
The initiative is under the patronage and receives substantive support from the Polish Society of Prenatal Cardiology. The technologies used in the project are provided by a Polish company specializing in the use of AI for CHD diagnosis.
